As the summer comes to an end, it's time to change out of your trusty UHP tires, at least until the warm sun returns. Proper storage not only preserves the longevity of your summer tires but also ensures they're ready to roll when the warm spring sun makes its comeback. In this guide, we'll walk you through the steps to store your summer tires with care, ensuring they remain in top-notch condition.

Winter is coming
What to Do Before Storage:
Image
Clean, wipe clean & clean tread.
Before tucking your summer tires away, give them a thorough cleaning. Use a gentle detergent and water to wash away any dirt, salt, or grime accumulated during the summer months. DON'T FORGET: Ensure the treads are free from debris.

Mark tires with placement.
To simplify tire rotation during the next seasonal change, mark each tire with its placement on the vehicle. This small step ensures you mount them correctly, optimizing their performance and lifespan.

Clean your wheels.
If storing your tires together with the wheels, don't forget to clean the wheels as well. Use a mild cleaner and a soft brush to remove any brake dust or residue. Allow the wheels to dry completely before storing them to prevent the formation of mold or corrosion.

Things to consider for storage:

Choose a cool, dry place.

Choose a storage location that is cool, dry, and away from direct sunlight. Excessive heat and humidity can accelerate tire aging and deterioration. A garage or basement are ideal options for storing tires, as they offer stable temperatures and protection from the elements.

Store vertically if possible.

Whenever feasible, store your tires vertically rather than stacking them horizontally. Vertical storage helps prevent the tires from developing flat spots and maintains their shape more effectively.

By following these simple steps, you can ensure your summer tires remain in excellent condition during their time in storage. Just like us, tires are always aging. These few tips will help slow the process and extend the life of your tires while in storage. Remember, before mounting your stored tires back on your vehicle, make sure to have a tire professional inspect the tires first.
