History of ATD

Becoming the nation's automotive aftermarket supplier

In 1935, James H. Heafner opened Heafner Tires, a single tire store in Lincolnton, NC. Over the course of 65 years, Heafner tires grew to become a leading national tire and service distributor. In that time, several major tire companies, such as Beath tire Mart, Oliver & Winston, and Commonwealth Tire, were acquired under the Heafner banner.

In 2022, the name American Tire Distributors (ATD) was adopted to reflect the company’s national footprint and focus on distribution. Today, ATD is the nation’s largest independent supplier of tires to the replacement tire market. The company offers an unsurpassed breadth and depth of inventory, frequent delivery, and value-added services to tire and automotive service customers.

Clean, wipe clean & clean tread.
Before tucking your winter tires away, give them a thorough cleaning. Use a gentle detergent and water to wash away any dirt, salt, or grime accumulated during the winter months. DON'T FORGET: Ensure the treads are free from debris.
    Image
    Mark tires with placement.
To simplify tire rotation during the next seasonal change, mark each tire with its placement on the vehicle. This small step ensures you mount them correctly, optimizing their performance and lifespan.
    Image
    Clean your wheels.
If storing your tires together with the wheels, don't forget to clean the wheels as well. Use a mild cleaner and a soft brush to remove any brake dust or residue. Allow the wheels to dry completely before storing them to prevent the formation of mold or corrosion.
